A reading section with selected books on philosophy and religion in Japanese and English is open to visitors at the Zushi Centre. Bookstore Vedanta literature and books on Ramakrishna, Sarada Devi, Vivekananda and etc. both in Japanese and English, CDs and cassettes of Indian devotional songs, incence sticks, selected photos.
Anyone who wishes to express his appre-ciation and support of Vedantic teachings in Japan is welcome to become a member of the Vedanta Kyokai. Private interviews with the resident monk, Swami Medhasananda, are by appointment only. |
Activities of the Nippon Vedanta Kyokai Daily: Shrine: Remains open from 5-15 a.m. through 8 p.m. for meditation. Chanting and Devotional songs: Chanting every morning and Aratrik bhajan every evening in the shrine. Ramanam sankirtanam once a month. Monthly: Talks: Talks on Vedanta / Bhagavad Gita / Yogas and similar other subjects of Indian philosophy and religion by the resident monk every month as part of the Zushi Retreat and the Shimbashi Talk.
Zushi Retreat: A whole-day retreat on the third Sunday of every month with programmes of meditation, chanting, discourse, etc., at the Zushi Centre in Kanagawa-ken. Annual / Special Events: Celebrations: Birthday celebrations of Sri Ramakrishna, Holy Mother Sarada Devi, Swami Vivekananda, Sri Krishna, Gautama Buddha, Jesus Christ through a programme of meditation, hymns, devotional songs and discourses. Public celebration of Swami Vivekananda's birth anniversary: held in Tokyo in June. Akhanda Japam: Continuous spiritual practice 5 a.m. to 8 p.m. in the shrine twice a year. Outdoor Spiritual Retreat: Held every summer in natural surrounding for a weekend. Special Events: Past 'special events' have included the dedication of our new Holy Mother's House and visits from the head's of other centres around the world. Back to Top
